ELKINS — A new salon has opened in downtown Elkins and the owners are hoping to bring a unique style to the local area.

Top Knot Salon opened for business Wednesday at 914 South Davis Ave. in Elkins. The salon features a three-person staff, including co-owners and cosmetologists Carlie Geiser and Mika Owens, and nail technician Logan Ryan.

“One of the biggest things for us is staying up-to-date on all the trends,” Geiser said. “We wanted to bring something to the Elkins area that is a little more edgy and artistic.”

The business is looking to bring their creativity to Elkins with several services being offered.

“We offer anything hair- and color-related, hair cuts, perms, up dos and all the formal stuff. We have nail services for manicures, pedicures, acrylics, gels and dips. We offer waxing, Brazilian blowouts, conditioning treatments,” Geyser said.

“Between Mika and I, we have 20 years of experience in the beauty industry,” she said. “So we decided it was time to do something on our own.”

Top Knot is offering free back-to-school haircuts on Monday, Aug. 14 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and has a grand opening event planned for Saturday, Oct. 12 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Geiser graduated top of her class with honors from The Temple: A Paul Mitchell Partner School in Frederick, Maryland in 2012. She spent four years working in the Maryland and Virginia area before bringing her skills to Elkins, her hometown. She became a national color and cutting educator with Scruples.

Geiser bought her first salon at 23, Elevate 180 Salon, and after four years, she decided to work toward a bachelor’s degree in business, while working at SmartStyle Buckhannon. After having her daughter, Kora, she decided to return to Elkins and work at Hair Graphics before opening Top Knot.

Owens graduated in 2014 from the Clarksburg Beauty Academy. She worked at the Elkins SmartStyle for six years. She has a reputation of being a talented stylist who loves her clients. She loves to do anything color-related, is a “boss” at men’s and boy’s fades/haircuts and has a thirst for staying up to date on all things education-related in the beauty industry. Owens and her husband, Jeremiah, have three children, Jayda, Keegan and Maverick.

Ryan graduated from the Clarksburg Beauty Academy in 2014. She has always loved doing nails and knew this was the career path she wanted to take. She specializes in acrylics, gel manicures, dip powder and pedicures. Ryan and her partner, Tyler, are the parents of one girl, Tinsley. Tyler is a firefighter for the City of Elkins and a Randolph County EMT.

Top Knot is currently working to have telephone lines installed in the business. To find out more information and to book appointments, visit www.facebook.com/topknothairllc304 or send an email to [email protected].
